Come See Who Floats (and Who Sinks) at Rock The Boat 2026!
Summer camp is officially back in session, and this year it floats! United Way of Southwest Michigan’s ROCK THE BOAT, Presented by Honor Credit Union, paddles back into the St. Joseph River Channel at the Inn at Harbor Shores on Thursday, July 16 beginning at 5pm! The whole riverfront becomes one giant day camp, and here is the best part, camper: you do not have to build a boat to join the fun. All the fun is right here on the riverfront, and it is free to attend and cheer on our teams.
Now for the news every camper has been waiting to hear. This year, getting to the water is easier than passing the swim test, because you can park easily and hop on a shuttle for free, sponsored by our friends at Visit Southwest Michigan! Buses loop every ten minutes or less from two easy pickup spots: 230 Upton Drive across from the Whirlpool St. Joseph Tech Center, and the Michigan Works! lot at the corner of Main Street and Riverview Drive in Benton Harbor. Park once, hop on, and let us drop you steps from the action. No circling the block, no hunting for a spot, no long hike in the July sun through the grass lot. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, bring the whole cabin, and leave the parking stress back at the bunkhouse.
Picture it: hundreds of campers cheering from the riverfront, camp anthems playing, friendship-bracelet colors everywhere, and life-size cardboard boats charging through the heats while their crews paddle like mad and pray they stay afloat. Some glide. Some wobble. A few go down in a glorious, soggy heap, and honestly those are the ones the crowd loves most. Whether a boat sails to victory or sinks on the spot, every splash earns a roar from the riverfront.
Hungry after all that cheering? Hit the camp canteen (our food truck row!) and stick around. It is the kind of golden summer evening that begs you to stay a while, soak up the sun, and watch your neighbors do something delightfully ridiculous for a great cause.
Still itching to captain your own cardboard creation? There is time, but not much. Registration stays open only through July 5 at RockTheBoatForUnitedWay.com, so rally the office, the neighbors, or your whole camp crew and claim your slot before the dock closes. Spectators, no sign-up needed. Just show up.
