Why do you serve on the Board?
As a member of the Board it means a lot to be able to share my voice and have an influence on the communities of SW Michigan. Serving on the Board is rewarding as you see the positive impact United Way has on people. What we do matters.
What is your leadership philosophy?
What I see is the importance of people. You must have trust and faith in the potential of people you work with and for. A collaborative approach ensures buy in to the mission of an organization. The impact we have is far greater if we are all invested and moving together.
What is your most memorable volunteer experience?
I was blessed to serve on a board for the Homer Community Foundation. It was amazing to see the impact that an organization can have. To see a small rural town grow in its support for the arts, education, and quality of life was eye opening. This realization has influenced my desire to make life better for those in need.
What quality do you most like in a person?
I would say niceness/kindness. It just matters! It just takes too much energy to be with not nice people.
What is your most treasured possession?
My family. I have been married my college sweetheart Alice for 40 years. We are proud to have raised 3 sons who have each charted their own self-directed paths. I have a blessed life with much to be thankful for.
