When it seems like no one else is there, or nothing could help, United Way is there to help someone when they are most vulnerable. Homeless, hungry and victims of fire have all found help at their time of need through United Way supported agencies.
- United Way serves as the government’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program (FEMA) coordination site for Berrien County. We bring community members together to select recipients who will provide emergency food and shelter assistance within our county.
- As a critical partner in county-wide disaster preparedness planning, United way led the implementation of COAD (Community Organizations Assisting in Disaster) committee, which helps to ensure that our community agencies are ready if a disaster should strike.
- United Way routinely invests in local temporary shelters to help prevent long-term homelessness.
- In addition to year-round information and referral services, our First Call For Help hotline coordinates access to holiday assistance providers to help bring food, supplies and some much-needed holiday cheer to as many families as possible.
