Could I Be a Girls on the Run or Girls on Track Coach? 

If you could help 8 to 15 girls gain a stronger sense of identity, greater self-esteem and self-acceptance, and empower them to change their world all by volunteering for just three hours a week would you?

 

Each year we seek a dynamic group of coaches to lead our teams of girls. Coaching is one of the most rewarding ways to be involved in our program. Coaches must be at least 18 years old. Parents, teachers, school administrators, college students, runners, non-runners and people who are committed to developing and celebrating our youth make great coaches.  (Junior coaches must be at least 16 years old and may coach for high school community service credit.)

 




  • What are the qualifications of a coach? 
    Have an interest in the issues facing young women today,

  • Be reliable, genuine, and have a positive outlook on life,

  • Have a sincere interest in leading a healthy life,

  • Be committed to the healthy physical and emotional development of young girls

  • Be available for 90 minutes two afternoons per week between March 11th and May 31st

  • Be able to pass a criminal background check

 



What training is involved for new or returning coaches?
New Coaches must attend ONE three hour coaches’ training:



  • Wednesday, February 22, 6-9pm @ Brown Elementary, St. Joseph  OR

  • Sunday, February 26, 2-5pm @ Sylvester Elementary, Berrien Springs  OR

  • Thursday, March 1, 6-9pm @ Buchanan High School, Buchanan.

 


Returning Coach Training.  Per GOTR International requirements retraining is required every other year.  If you attended training in the spring of 2010 you must attend the spring 2012 training.  (If you attended training in the spring of 2011 it is optional for you to attend the spring 2012 training)  Returning coaches please plan to attend only ONE:




  • Wednesday, February 15, 6-7:30pm @ Brown Elementary, St. Joseph OR


  • Thursday, February 23, 6-7:30pm @ Buchanan High School, Buchanan.

 


ALL Coaches must become CPR and First Aid certified (FREE certification provided by Lakeland Healthcare. First Aid is approximately from 9-11am and CPR is from 12:30-3pm ) choose ONLY ONE:



  • Saturday, February 18, 9am-3pm, Meadowbrook Facility 2550 Meadowbrook Road Benton Harbor, MI, Lakeland Healthcare, OR

  • Sunday, February 19, 9am-3pm, Meadowbrook Facility 2550 Meadowbrook Road Benton Harbor, MI , Lakeland Healthcare, OR

  • Saturday, February 25, 9am-3pm, Ballard Elementary, NILES   OR

  • Sunday, March 4, 9am-3pm, Meadowbrook Facility 2550 Meadowbrook Rd Benton Harbor, MI, Lakeland Healthcare, Benton Harbor.

 


All Coaches must attend ONE Mandatory coaches’ meeting during the season



  •   Monday, April 16, 6:00-8:30pm, Berrien RESA, Berrien Springs OR

  •   Thursday, April 19th from 6:00-8:30pm, Berrien RESA, Berrien Springs

 





  • Are there other coaching responsibilities?
    Work with 2+ coaches per site to deliver 20 ninety-minute lessons in a manner consistent with the GOTR philosophy and curricula; this includes attending practice two afternoons per week for the duration of the program


  • Serve as a role model for the girls and encourage the girls at all times

  • Wait at the school/site following practice until all girls have been picked up

  • Plan and coordinate the end of season party for the team

  • Administer the program pre-and post-test as directed

  • Lead the girls in the coordination of a community service project

  • Participate with the girls in the end of season GOTR 5K on Thursday, May 31, 2012.

Potential Girls On The Run and Girls On Track Coaches must complete the following coach application and non-compete form.  These forms are to be submitted by February 14, 2012 to the school's site liaison.  (In December a list of participating schools and site liaisons will be available by clicking on the  "Location/Become A Site" tab above.)
