Participants of Girls on the Run/Girls On Track and their families are charged a registration fee of $60. A scholarship application must be submitted if the full $60 is not paid. There is a minimum $10 fee that is required with every registration. A required minimum fee has been shown to increase attendance and participation rates among girls who were unable to pay the full registration fee. Girls participate equally in the program regardless of the fee their family pays. Schools may seek registration sponsorships as will United Way of Southwest Michigan, however, schools are asked to notify Peggy Schaffer, of special fundraising intentions.
The United Way of Southwest Michigan (UWSM) has identified four areas of impact: Education, Income, Health and Basic Needs. Girls on the Run is supported by the UWSM because it falls into the Health impact area. The UWSM is dedicated to providing a low cost program to girls in Berrien County. Participants of Girls on the Run and their families will be charged a registration fee of $60. The actual out of pocket cost for this twice per week, ten week program is $115 per girl. The United Way has committed to raising the necessary funds to ensure equal access and program success. Families who have the ability to and are interested in supporting the program beyond the $60 will have an opportunity to sponsor additional girls as well on the participant registration form.
