Benton Harbor, MI - United Way of Southwest Michigan, partnering with the family of Margaret B. Upton and the Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan, is accepting nominations for the 29th Annual Margaret B. Upton Volunteer Leadership Award. This prestigious award honors a local member of the community who has made exceptional volunteer contributions for a local non-profit organization.
The recipient of this year's award will be announced at the Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan's National Volunteer Week luncheon, to be held Thursday, April 22nd at the Grand Upton Hall of Lake Michigan College's Mendel Center. In addition to being honored at the luncheon, the selected recipient will be awarded $1,000 from the Frederick S. Upton Foundation to be given to the charity of his or her choice.
The award was named after Margaret B. Upton in recognition of her significant volunteer contribution to so many organizations throughout Berrien County. Margaret B. Upton worked tirelessly throughout her life to provide support and increased capacity for local organizations. She was, and continues to be, an inspiration for people throughout the community who serve as volunteers.
Any Berrien County non-profit organization that utilizes volunteers may submit one nomination for the award. Nominations should demonstrate a candidate's exemplary service to the community through a range of diverse projects or services. The individual should have a long-standing record of volunteer contributions. Nominations must be submitted to the United Way office by Noon on Wednesday, March 19, 2010. Late applications will not be considered.
