Welcome to Girls on the Run of Berrien County - a life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is "to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living."Girls on the Run combines training for 5K (3.1 miles) running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships and physical training - all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
Girls on the Run of Berrien County is an Affiliate Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 150 locations across the United States and Canada.
Is your goal this year to run, bike, or swim your way to fitness? Then do it while raising money for a worthy cause. Join SoleMates and make a difference for your local Girls On the Run (GOTR) council. “SoleMates are male and female athletes who pursue individual fitness goals while raising money for GOTR. You can walk, run, swim, or bike in ANY length event and raise funds for our organization” states Peggy Schaffer, GOTR Council Director. “We are recruiting area athletes who are training for anything from a 5K to the Chicago Marathon.”Girls on the Run SoleMates support their athletes with training plans, group runs, simple online fundraising, incentive prizes for participants, and inspirational emails. In addition, if athletes are interested in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and sign up as a Girls On The Run SoleMate the participant receives access to the GOTR tent in the Charity Village which serves as a meeting space on race day, private gear check, access to private bathrooms, food, water and other supplies before and after the race.“Registration for the Chicago Marathon will close soon so we encourage immediate SoleMates registration. For other events of the athletes’ choice, including the Girls On The Run 5k event on May 27th there is still time to register.” (click on the 5k Event tab above)

SoleMates support their members with exclusive runner premiums, effortless online fundraising and online support. SoleMates encourages their members to continue fundraising beyond the low minimum to support the GOTR mission. Additional incentives are available for all participants that surpass the fundraising goals.Members then agree to raise a minimum of $262 by collecting individual pledges. “The $262 was based on the marathon distance of 26.2 miles. If you are training for a marathon, such as Chicago, a neat way to solicit donations is to tell others you are raising $10 per mile.”For more information about SoleMates please visit the national website at www.girlsontherunsolemates.org or our local website at http://www.active.com/donate/SoleMates2011/berriencounty
